The Rostrum Judging Standard

01
Blind Evaluation Protocol
All identifying information — school name, program size, director reputation — is withheld from evaluators. You judge only what you hear and see, scored against criteria the director verified before the season opened.
02
Director-Set Criteria
Every criterion is submitted and locked by the ensemble's director before competition begins. Judges score against those exact standards — nothing is improvised, nothing is retroactive.
03
Permanent Record
Every score, comment, and evaluation is archived in The Rostrum vault — searchable, time-stamped, and linked to the specific performance. No score disappears. No comment is anonymous to the platform.
04
Conflict-of-Interest Disclosure
Any relationship with a competing ensemble — current or former student, co-worker, personal connection — must be disclosed before assignment. Undisclosed conflicts are grounds for immediate removal and score invalidation.
05
Equity Across Program Size
A 12-person chamber ensemble and a 200-member program are never scored against each other. Tiers separate by ensemble size, ensuring that resources and headcount never determine results.
06
Region Finals & Awards
Top-scoring ensembles in each region advance to Regional Finals. Awards are issued in categories of musical excellence — not participation. All award decisions derive exclusively from accumulated evaluation records.

Conflict of Interest Disclosure
Full Disclosure Required
The Rostrum requires complete transparency about any relationship that could compromise blind evaluation. This includes current or former students, colleagues at competing institutions, personal relationships with directors, and financial relationships with any ensemble or program. Undisclosed conflicts result in permanent removal and score invalidation.
